"Star Trek teaser trailer"

LAST EDITED ON Jan-21-08 AT 06:55 PM (EST)

For those who went to see Transformers and saw the trailer for what was eventually revealed to be Cloverfield, you probably know by now that J.J. Abrams loves to tease us with trailers that leave you with more questions than answers (as well as very long wait dates). Well, he matched and raised the bar this time, with the teaser for Star Trek (which happened to be part of the trailers included with Cloverfield).

Thus, the link: http://www.paramount.com/startrek/

From what I've seen on Trek boards lately, yep. When they're not arguing about whether it's possible to construct a starship on a planet's surface, they're trying to ponder what the final product will look like and taking polls as to whether the new movie will "rape their childhood memories" or not.

Those aren't questions, they're just Standard Fandom Dipshittery. Questions, at least in the vein of those raised by the Cloverfield teaser, would be more along the lines of, "Well, that's nice and all, guys, but what the fuck is this movie about?" (admittedly a hard dollar when you're starting from the premise that it's a Star Trek movie) or, "Who? I've never heard of any of these people," or possibly even, "Was that Lance Henriksen?"

As for the matter of raping childhood memories, of course it will. If you're the sort of person who asks that question when confronted with a new film based on an old franchise, the answer is automatically yes.

I'll take it if it just rapes the bad taste of the last few middling movies. And I *worked* on Nemesis.

They've cast Spock perfectly, fwiw.

I'm still waiting for the trailers to see how much I like that bit of casting. As it is, I'm still trying to keep myself from imagining Spock eating Kirk's brain. And, more seriously, I hope Quinto can speak in a much deeper, more resonant voice akin to Nimoy's, as opposed to the high-pitched, creepy Villain Voice he uses for Sylar.

Hey, I liked nemesis, but it, and first contact definately stood out as being very good whereas the other two nextgen films... made me long for the sheer poetry of
the final frontier.... o_O

At least that had Jimmy Dohaan nutting himself on a low hanging beam...

Yeah, but what makes that scene was the line about knowing the ship like the back of his hand right before that.

Yeah, I'm with G on this one. The "Cloverfield" trailer left me asking "what?". The "Star Trek" trailer left me asking... um... "did you choose to shoot at night because you thought it was artistic or did you just not want us to see anything?"

Of Couse it will rape our childhoods, its what these movies do
In fact, I think I can already hear the Fanrage over the Enterprise being built IN San Fransisco instead of over it

My old coworker had an aneurysm over Spock and Kirk being in the Academy at the same time, and now he's suffering an acute bout of Tourette's about where, precisely, the Enterprise is being built.

He's Not This Movie's Demographic. In fact, I believe he may be one of the single biggest arguments for the need to reboot the franchise.

Worse, he's not even the Star Trek Geek at my old office. I actually worked at the same place as the guy who's a bratty-assed 14-year-old Pedantic Trek Nerd in Trekkies, who went on to be the Star Trek Geek on Beat the Geeks. He's all grown up now and a much better person, and I think he may even be OK with Kirk and Spock going to the Academy at the same time.
