You know, I don't doubt that this series will actually be good. Marvel has been on a roll with Thor and Thor-related titles recently. The Mighty Thor is one of the best jumping-on points for an ongoing in recent memory. For those who love them some heavy continuity, Agent of Asgard is equally as good and a worthy successor to Journey into Mystery.. Heck, that title in it's Featuring Sif! incarnation was also pretty awesome until they cancelled it. And I like the Guardians of the Galaxy ongoing. So like I said, this series will probably be pretty good... But goddammit, Marvel. Can we get a female warrior-type character who wears, you know... clothes? And who, when she doesn't have an ounce of fat elsewhere on her body, also doesn't have something like twenty pounds of it front and center, barely contained, on her chest? And some visible musculature would be nice as well. I suppose with Angela specifically it's all right, I guess, but Sif is supposed to cleave peoples skulls in twain on a regular basis. She should be built like Korra. It's wearisome. -Merc Keep Rat |

>Her original costume, sure, but I don't think he's calling the shots >anymore. Or if he is, I'm very afraid. He's probably still got a few friends at Marvel (I mean, even he can't have alienated everyone that hasn't left since he stopped working for them), but, no, I'm sure the current costume is someone else's fault. Her basic physique, though? That's all him, and it's not like most comic artists are the types to veer away from that sort of build once it's been established. (If only we could somehow clone Ross Campbell...) >Because it isn't like they can't do a redesign there. I mean, look at >Loki in that promo art. I don't recall previous incarnations of Loki's >ensemble involving two tickets to the gun show. They could, but can you imagine an editor or what-have-you in the current Big Two industry culture telling someone to tone that sort of thing down? I mean, there have been some excellent redesigns that have gone in the other direction -- and there's some good things going on in some corners of Marvel, either way -- but ... yeah, I'm not holding my breath on Angela developing either anatomically plausible proportions or additional cloth. Well, credit where credit is due: Marvel has been getting a lot better about that. The trend has mostly been towards "tight, but practical." Kate Bishop no longer dresses solely in a midriff baring bustier. Natasha rarely has the zipper on her catsuit stuck in the halfway-down position during fights. Sif has had a number of modern re-designs that make her far more practical-looking. America Chavez, despite her bright colors, is dressed relentlessly practically. Even the X-Men have been moving away from their awful 90s aesthetics. Remember those battle thongs Psylocke was wearing for so long? Emma Frost still looks appalling, but you know... Emma. -Merc Keep Rat |
