0|0|0|||1||In honor of the new Rule %235...|Wedge||01:02:08|12/21/2002|%28Figured I%27d put this here instead of tacking it onto the thread in the Website forum...%29%0D%0A%0D%0AAhhh%2C there was nothing like bolstering my travel anxiety by filming out the airliner crash shot the night before making a cross country flight.%0D%0A%0D%0AWe only did a handful of shots for %5Bi%5DFight Club%5B%2Fi%5D%2C but there were quite a few gags in that particular shot.  I sat next to the 3d artist who made all of the debris that flies around the cabin.  You can%27t see any of it since it%27s all motion-blurred%2C but it consists of little Jack Daniels bottles%2C tiny bottles of tabasco %28I believe branded with our company logo which we later actually had made for SIGGRAPH swag%29%2C and airline sized bags of Chef%27s Chocolate Salty Balls.%0D%0A%0D%0AThe man in eyeglasses clutching his seat in terror at the end of the pan across the disintigrating cabin is none other than Kevin Mack%2C the VFX Superviser for the show and one of the winners of the Academy Award for Special Effects for %5Bi%5DWhat Dreams May Come%5B%2Fi%5D. Do you guys put %0D%0A%3Ethings like the tobasco bottles in just to see what you can get away %0D%0A%3Ewith%3F %0D%0A%0D%0AIt depends on the show and the level of humor everyone involved has.  The debris wasn%27t much of a stretch%2C since in the final shot it%27s all unrecognizable and blurry.  Other stuff fits into the scene%3A in %5Bi%5DThe Fifth Element%5B%2Fi%5D%2C the flying buses in the traffic have identifying numbers on the roofs%2C just like most modern buses.  In most of the shots you can see the numbers in they%27re usually either the shot number of that particular shot %28CC60 is one of them%2C I think%29 or artist initials.%0D%0A%0D%0AQuite often someone will do a gag shot%2C especially if the shot in question has been a real pain in the ass.  %5Bi%5DTitanic%5B%2Fi%5D had an entire reel of them%2C including one of the long shots with Jack and Rose on the bow of the ship with most of the major muppets walking the decks in the background instead of the digital actors.  I also heard someone took one of the shots with all the swimmers in the water and replaced all their heads with Jim%27s head%2C but I never saw it.  %28Also%2C not a gag%2C but if you watch the long shot that flys over %5Bi%5DTitanic%5B%2Fi%5D%2C between the smokestacks%2C and then trails away%2C if you watch the very back rail of the ship you can see two of the digital people beating the tar out of each other%2C which always makes me chuckle.%29%0D%0A%0D%0AMore recently%2C someone took one of the avalanche shots from %5Bi%5DXXX%5B%2Fi%5D and had Vin get creamed road runner style in one of the snow boulders%2C complete with him being flattened in it for a second revolution before the shot ended.
