Admittedly%2C I personally reckon you%27d be better off with Japanese metal - all the European manufacturers are still trying to get their reliability issues cracked%2C something Honda et all managed thirty or so years ago. I%27ve seen enough Triumphs cook themselves in my time%2C though a good part of that was probably due to the riders thrashing the bikes to death. Ducatis%2C although very nice bikes%2C have a nasty habit of falling to bits%2C and the smaller Aprillias tend to seize unexpectedly all over the place. Bought it in %2796%2C and it had nearly a lunar unit on the engine.  It ran with a first time rider for a year%2C hit 42 out of the lower 48 states in one trip%2C and kept running %28with minor maintenence%29 until %2701.  AFAIK%2C it%27s %2Astill%2A running.%0D%0A%0D%0AAs for why they didn%27t put her on an R1%2C well..having test ridden one recently%2C I can tell you that a%29 the agility of it is nowhere %2Anear%2A a Duc%27s%2C %28A tendency to need to lean %2Ahard%2A to get it to stand back up after a sharp turn%29 and it%27s also probably far to short to comfortably fit two riders on%2C and still be manuverable. Wouldn%27t this pretty much mean that it all comes down to handling and personal preference %28since too much torque on a bike is just stupid%2C and after HP where is there to go with engine power%3F%29%3F%0D%0A%0D%0APersonally%2C I have always liked Ducati 900s and GSX-Rs.  My favorite bike for looks%2C style%2C and overall coolness is the Bimota %28the last generation had Duc power plants%2C if I%27m not mistaken%29%2C with the forkless front end%2C but since I%27m a layman %28and could never%2C ever afford a Bimota even if they were still made%29 you all can laugh at me if you want.
