Fortunately%2C they didn%27t do anything goofy like try to pass today%27s Lis Sladen off as the Sarah Jane from the 1970s %28the way they did with Frazer Hines as Jamie in %5Bi%5DThe Two Doctors%5B%2Fi%5D%29%2C but if they %5Bi%5Dhad%5B%2Fi%5D%2C I think it almost would%27ve worked. %3A%29  Instead%2C they built the story around the very fact that mortals get older and the Doctor%2C occasionally%2C gets younger%2C which makes for some interesting reflection.%0D%0A%0D%0A%3EHow was the episode%28s%29%3F Same old Sarah Jane%3F %0D%0A%0D%0AI thought it was excellent%2C bar only a couple of details of the ending %28one of which really has little to do with Sarah Jane%29.  David Tennant is really hitting his stride as the Doctor%2C there%27s some terrific byplay between Sarah Jane and Rose%2C and K-9 %28still%2C as Mario points out%2C voiced by Jon Leeson%29 rather steals the thing at the end%2C which is nice.%0D%0A%0D%0AAll in all%2C I think it worked out well enough that I%27d like to see her again - if not on %5Bi%5DDoctor Who%5B%2Fi%5D%2C maybe on %5Bi%5DTorchwood%5B%2Fi%5D%2C the Earth-based spinoff that%27s in development.  I also wouldn%27t mind seeing the occasional other past-companion reappearance - I wouldn%27t want the show to turn into a sort of past-companion revue or anything%2C but maybe once a season or so.%0D%0A%0D%0AFor instance%2C it%27d require re-casting the part at this point%2C but I would %5Bi%5Dreally%5B%2Fi%5D like to see them look in on Susan Foreman%2C the Doctor%27s granddaughter.  Apart from her appearance in %5Bi%5DThe Five Doctors%5B%2Fi%5D%2C where they didn%27t have time to get into any kind of exploration of what%27s become of her%2C Susan hasn%27t been heard of since she left the show way the heck back in 1966%27s %5Bi%5DThe Dalek Invasion of Earth%5B%2Fi%5D - and with the new show focusing so intently on the Doctor%27s aloneness%2C one would think they could make quite a powerful bit of television out of a reunion of those two.%0D%0A%0D%0A--G.%0D%0A-%3E%3C-%0D%0ABenjamin D. They started out doing Doctor Who plays %28starring Peter Davison%2C Colin Baker%2C Sylvester McCoy%2C and later Paul McGann%29%2C but have branched out into Doctor Who spin-offs %28including the Sarah Jane series starring Lis Sladen%2C a UNIT series with Nicholas Courtney%2C and a Gallifrey series with Lalla Ward as President Romana%29%2C a follow-up to the Virgin Books Doctor Who New Adventures %28with Lisa Bowerman as Bernice Summerfield%29%2C and recently a few non-Who series such as new stories based on %5Bi%5DThe Tomorrow People%5B%2Fi%5D%2C %5Bi%5DJudge Dredd%5B%2Fi%5D and %5Bi%5DSappire and Steel%5B%2Fi%5D %28sadly with both main roles re-cast%29. There%27s some cross-over between Big Finish and the current TV series%3B Nicholas Briggs%2C who has provided Nestene%2C Dalek and Cybermen voices for the TV series has previously done similar voices for Big Finish. It%27s also worth noting that last year%27s %5Bi%5DDalek%5B%2Fi%5D and the current Cybermen two-parter %5Bi%5DRise of the Cybermen%5B%2Fi%5D %2F %5Bi%5DThe Age of Steel%5B%2Fi%5D are both %28losely%29 based on Big Finish plays %28%5Bi%5DJubilee%5B%2Fi%5D and %5Bi%5DSpare Parts%5B%2Fi%5D respectively%29.%0D%0A%0D%0A%5Blink%3Awww.bbc.co.uk%2Fbbc7%2Findex.shtml%7CBBC 7%5D%2C a digital-only BBC radio station%2C had until recently been broadcasting the McGann 8th Doctor plays on saturdays. Also%2C I%27ve no idea if the Listen Live %28Real or Windows Media%29 and Listen Again %28Real only%2C covers the last 7 days of programming%29 streams are geographically restricted%2C but it%27s worth a try if the show%27s on.
