They were there because the WDF had helped the last survivors of the Colonies escape eradication a few years before%2C and throwing in with GENOM%27s push on Zeta Cygni seemed like the surest way to get another crack at them.  When the battle was lost%2C the surviving Cylons fled. I%27m about a third into the first pass and haven%27t been able to get back to it because of general life stuff.%0D%0A%0D%0AThat being said%2C it is%2C in fact%2C an Ace Combat game.  I%27ve been a diehard fan of the series since 4 came out.  Aside from having more horsepower the game%27s not changed much%2C though the scale%27s a little bigger now-- I%27d only just been starting to use the %27call in the calvary%27 feature.  Two minor annoyances%3A they%27ve yet to reproduce the simplicity of rewarding new aircraft that was AC4%27s hanger system.  I%27m a decent chunk into the game and I%27ve only got like 5 planes to buy%3F  That%27s kind of lame.  I%27m sure if I had the time to be hardcore about it%2C that would be fine%2C but it would%27ve been nice to have an easier structure open to more casual gamers.  My only other complaint isn%27t really the game%27s fault%2C but it%27s certainly an HD beast.  Some of the finer details%2C like%2C say%2C ground targets%3F are difficult to pick out%2C and some of the HUD text is a bitch to read on a standard tv.  It%27s hard to argue that when the rest of the game looks so freaking awesome%2C but.%0D%0A%0D%0AThe story is%2C so far%2C the stock AC %27the horrors of war meet the joy of comradeship%27%2C so I%27d probably not expect too much of that running around anywhere in Eyrie %28and the characters are pretty cookie cutter most of the time%29.  I%27ve joked with Gryph about the fake country names before%2C an aspect I%27m terribly fond of. You need big-time AOE to zark the loading missiles%2C since they%27re buried in a recessed trench%2C and it%27s also good for the %28plentiful%29 flak guns. Use the cannon on the real targets%3B it should be able to chew through both them and all three of their shielding layers in a single pass.
