It%27s a %22mature%22 Magical Girl anime%2C where %22mature%22 actually means %22more interesting plot and deeper characters%22 rather that %22lots of pseudo-philosophical asides and a nonsensical downer ending%22.%0D%0A%0D%0AIt has a very interesting magical technology %28or possibly technological magic%29 system%2C very nicely animated sorcery battles%2C and an overall theme of friendship and redemption. The main character%27s approach is described%2C in fan circles%2C as %22befriending the %5Bi%5Dcrap%5B%2Fi%5D out of her opponents%22.%0D%0A%0D%0AI can%27t exactly guarantee that %22if you like Eyrie works%2C you%27ll like this series%22%2C but for what it%27s worth%2C I like both of them for pretty much the same reasons.

I would definitely recommend Nanoha to %5Bi%5Danyone%5B%2Fi%5D who likes Eyrie fic%2C without reservation.

And then they ass-kicking commences at %0D%0A%3Eor around that time. %0D%0A%0D%0AI actually thought they were rather clever - you have to realise that they%27re taking a somewhat tongue-in-cheek approach%2C almost spoofing the magical girl cliches %28pseudo-naked transformation sequences%2C magic ferret%2C etc%29. It%27s the kind of subtle humour that goes down well in Japan and goes straight over the heads of most of the world. The other part of what they%27re doing is right there in the title%3A it%27s %22lyrical%22 as in %22lyric poetry%22. The magical girl theme is the refrain.%0D%0A%0D%0AWhoever came up with the idea for the series has a delightfully twisty mind.

The first few episodes were a bit of a struggle%2C especially the wtf-art-style-shuffle%2C but I just %2Alove%2A their magic system.%0D%0A%0D%0ABesides%2C and Magical Girl show that has%2C at one point%2C the Good Guys%27 weapons talking in one language%2C and the Bad Guys%27 in another %28English and German%2C no less%2C how WWII of them%21 %3A%29 just rocks.
