Right from %5Bi%5DA New Hope%5B%2Fi%5D%2C R2-D2 and C-3P0 had more lines than all the stormtroopers combined.  He put the stormtroopers in head-to-toe body armor%2C no clear faceplate%2C to dehumanize them.%0D%0A%0D%0AHeck%2C in the most recent episode of %5Bi%5DThe Clone Wars%5B%2Fi%5D%2C Anakin loses two clone commandos in a raid to retrieve a droid %28if he hadn%27t split off from the raid to get R2%2C I doubt that any clones would have died%2C and R2 would have solved the security breach by going down with the ship%29%2C and considered it a success.  Of course%2C it wasn%27t just %5Bi%5Dany%5B%2Fi%5D droid...%0D%0A%0D%0AThe way they keep the %22okay to kill them wholesale%22 message is by having Grievous knock their heads off more often than Vader performed promotions by force choke.  Why should a Republic soldier treat a Separatist droid with any more dignity and respect than its own general does.%0D%0A%0D%0A--rR%0D%0A
