Does this seem odd%3F %0D%0A%0D%0ANo.  It took me a couple of weeks to work up the last scene with Max in %27Death in the Cathedral%27%2C and Bill told me that he had to stop three times writing Farmel%27s speech to the court at the end.%0D%0A%0D%0AThe current story hits a snag due to having to figure out how to best deal with a character done in a way far more evil than almost any version of the character I%27ve seen in any story to date.%0D%0A%0D%0A%22He genetically rebuilds his own SON%3F%22%0D%0A%22....yeah. I wrote it%2C read it%2C burned it%2C and scrapped the plans altogether because I couldn%27t deal. The machines takeing over the world part not the a machine gets send back in time to kill someone part. There is one scene%2C shortly after the machines have nuked Tokyo%2C where the commander of one of the few units of surviving troops calls   the military outpost at mount Fuji for help and gets her head smashed in by a Bu-B12 Boomer. It%27s completely finished in my head but I just can%27t write it down. %0D%0A

On one level it%27s like making a perfect vase and then hitting it with a hammer. They begin to become real%2C as though you can actually believe that they exist. They begin to gain a personality%2C and as you write them%2C you have to pause and ask yourself %27would they actually do something like this%3F%27 or %27how does she feel about what%27s going on%3F%27 They gain little quirks and habits that make them who they are.%0D%0A%0D%0AIn short%2C to both you and the reader%2C they become real people in your mind. When that happens%2C you know that you have something that people will be able to read and believe. It doesn%27t matter if it%27s set in the modern world or the far future%2C sci-fi or magic. When you are writing a story%2C regardless of a genre%2C you gonna have to create characters. Some good%2C some bad%2C or however you wish to describe them. Now%2C suddenly...you become attached to a certain character%2C or a small group of them. They start growing in your mind%2C they seem to act%2C react%2C respond%2C like a real person to the situations you throw at them%2C showing a distinct%2C unique personality....of your creation. This is one of the reasons why I have such a hard time writing %28well%2C that and staying with characters%29%2C I really don%27t want anybody to get hurt...or to experience whatever pain that I have. Try putting all your emotions into your work if you%27d like to see what it%27s like%2C any and all emotions. It%27s a novel..experience.%0D%0A
