Only really hurts while it%27s happening%2C not continuing on.%0D%0A%0D%0AYou can see it pretty much while they%27re tattooing you%2C and by the time they bandage it%2C there is very little blood%2C so you can see it perfectly then.%22%0D%0A%0D%0A-- %0D%0A-Pasha %28Who has none%2C because when he was young and dumb enough to get them%2C was too convinced that he was going to need to be a nameless baddass to want permanent identifiers. It hurts%2C yes%2C but%2C as stated in the other comment%2C it depends where you get it%3B the general rule is that the more dense the nerves%2C and the less meat between skin and bone%2C the more it%27ll hurt. It feels like exactly what it is%3A a series of very rapid%2C shallow pinpricks.%0D%0A%0D%0AIt%27ll be visible right away. There might be some slight scabbing%2C but it%27d be very slight %28where it scabs%2C the color%27s less likely to take -- one day I%27ll have to get my own ink touched up because of that%29. It needs to stay covered to help stave off infection for the first several hours after ink%3B to facilitate showing off%2C though%2C some tattoo artists will cover it with Saran wrap or an equivalent %28i.e. clean%2C sterile plastic wrap%29. %28Mine did.%29 Aftercare involves keeping it clean and free of infection%2C but also moisturized -- Googling for %22tattoo aftercare%22 should give you detailed instructions and some idea of the process.%0D%0A%0D%0A%22Mathematics brought rigor to economics. The endorphins kick in after a little while%2C so as long as you make it through the first bit%2C you%27ll be fine.%0D%0A%0D%0ATo me%2C it felt rather like a cat scratch%3B given that I grew up with a very disgruntled maine coon cat%2C that was no big deal to me.%0D%0A%0D%0AThe artist I had took the time to do a non-inked test line at the beginning%2C too%2C so as to gauge my pain tolerance and worked accordingly.  He also took a picture afterwards%2C so I could show people without removing the dressing for the recommended 24 hours%3B it did scab up a bit%2C but %28at least in my case%29 it was still perfectly visible.

Initial care and maintenance is big as it will prevent color bleeding.   It also depends on where you go.  The worst part of mine was that my arm fell asleep because the tattoo artist%2C a 250 lb biker who everyone knew as shank%2C kept resting his arm on mine as he worked.%0D%0A%0D%0ADepending on size and intricacy and method of tattooing it may take several hours or several sessions to finish.
