0|0|0|||||Must...Restrain...Flaming Rant...|DocMui||11:18:45|04/04/2002|Well%2C it%27s more of a long-lasting irritation than an actual%2C full-blown rant.%0D%0A%0D%0AAbout a year and a half ago%2C at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2000%2C I came upon an artist who was definitely influenced by the %22old-school%22 anime like Leiji Matsumoto%27s works and the like.  Thoroughly impressed%2C but short on time%2C I commissioned him for a picture involving two female characters from Sonic Soldier Borgman.  %28And no%2C it%27s not hentai...cheesecake%2C maybe%2C but not hentai.%29  That done%2C I paid him in advance and left%2C intent on gently reminding him every so often by e-mail.%0D%0A%0D%0AMind you%2C I %5Bb%5Dhave%5B%2Fb%5D contacted him every so often%3B not%2C mind you%2C in the %22breathing over your shoulder every hour of every day%22 manner%2C but every month or so.  I hate it when people do that to me%2C and I doubt that it%27s pleasant for anybody else.%0D%0A%0D%0ATo date%2C I%27ve gotten two reassurances that he is aware of the commission%2C and both of them on this forum--not via e-mail %28which%2C IMHO%2C rather puzzles me since he has never replied to my inquiries via e-mail%29.%0D%0A%0D%0AThat%27s it.  Just reassurances that he knows that he owes me a commission.  He didn%27t offer any status reports on%2C say%2C difficulties encountered posing the two characters%2C lack of reference material %28which I%27ve provided URLs to%29%2C or how far he%27s gotten %28poses%2C rough sketch%2C near-finished%29.%0D%0A%0D%0ANow%2C I knew that he was going to take a bit.  I%27m fine with that%2C and he did warn me that he tended to be a bit slow.  Still%2C I think that a year and a half without any notion of how far he%27s gotten is a bit much.  For all I know%2C he might not have even started on it %28although I think that this is rather unlikely%29.%0D%0A%0D%0AHouston%2C we have failure to communicate.%0D%0A%0D%0A%28For the record%2C this person is not the only artist I%27ve had to pursue for a commmission.  I%27ve had to hound and harry another artist for a period of roughly %5Bb%5Dtwo years%5B%2Fb%5D before I got my commission.  I literally had to catch him at a party %28in Maryland%2C no less%29 and glare at him before he drove me to his house and give me the drawing...which he%27d forgotten to give me roughly four months prior at a convention.  Now%2C does anyone really wonder why Lt. Columbo is one of my favorite detectives%3F  %3Cgrin%3E%29%0D%0A%0D%0ANow%2C I%27m not saying that this artist is a bad guy by any means.  I realize that he does have a life outside of drawing.  I know that good things take time %28anybody who knows my writing style knows this%29.  I%27m sure that he feels terribly%2C terribly guilty for having let things get this drawn-out %28no pun intended%29.%0D%0A%0D%0AStill...a %5Bb%5Dyear%5B%2Fb%5D and a %5Bb%5Dfreaking half%5B%2Fb%5D...without %5Bb%5D%5Bi%5Dany%5B%2Fb%5D%5B%2Fi%5D notion of how far he%27s gotten so that I might interject feedback.
