No soap.  The sanctioning body was not impressed.%0D%0A%0D%0AHowever%2C their management had made far too public a noise about never working with Renault again to be seen this year to be working with Renault again...%0D%0A%0D%0A... so while they are%2C in fact%2C using engines manufactured by Renault%2C they first cross out %22Renault%22 on the crates they come in and write in %22Tag Heuer%22.  Which is a company that makes expensive wristwatches. Scuderia Toro Rosso is not a threat to the top-echelon teams%3B they%27re running outdated hardware%2C essentially last year%27s Red Bull %28with last year%27s Ferrari engine%29%2C in any given season%2C and their two drivers have a combined age of about 12.  They%27re a farm team%2C AAA ball%2C grooming drivers for the main show.  Power unit troubles the last couple of years notwithstanding%2C Red Bull Racing still have Adrian Newey developing their chassis and Daniel Ricciardo driving one of their cars.  Nobody who is trying to operate a top-level team is willingly going to turn around and sell engines %28even outdated ones%29 to %5Bi%5Dthat%5B%2Fi%5D.  It%27d be like the Germans air-dropping ammo and food to the Allied troops holed up in Bastogne.%0D%0A%0D%0AAs it happens%2C this year Renault is trying to make a go of it with a works team again as well %28having bought out Team Lotus over the off-season%29%2C but they%27re not realistically in top-level contention like M-B and Ferrari%2C and frankly they need the money more than either of those two companies do.  In their case it was mostly just a question of wounded pride%2C hence the weird sleight of hand with Tag Heuer.%0D%0A%0D%0AFor a while it looked like VW was going to swoop in and save the day by jumping in as an engine provider%2C if not a full-on constructor this year%3B but then%2C well%2C that thing that caused a bunch of executives at VW to get fired and the company to lose a whole fuckton of money happened%2C and the idea kind of quietly went away.  And Honda won%27t sell to anyone other than McLaren at the moment%3B besides which%2C until a couple of weeks ago%2C the idea that anyone else would actually %5Bi%5Dwant%5B%2Fi%5D Honda%27s power unit was laughable%2C given how much the new engine rules made certain their offering sucked last year.%0D%0A%0D%0AF1 is kind of a nightmare in the Hybrid Era%3B I%27m not sure why I still watch it. It%27s sort of reached that point where you%27ve come to %0D%0A%3Edislike the show but you%27re too invested in the characters and you %0D%0A%3Ecan%27t quite bring yourself to delete the SP off your TiVo. %0D%0A%0D%0AIt could also be like knowing that a train wreck is coming and you want to be in a good spot to watch it when it happens.
