Unfortunately%2C sometime in the next few weeks%2C I may not have a choice.%0D%0A%0D%0ASince Monday%2C I%27ve had a meeting with my boss and his boss on my calendar for today%3B when it appeared there and I asked about it%2C my boss said oh%2C we%27ll be talking about the new team setup for the work on the Second Edition of %24PRODUCT %28which is coming up this summer%29.%0D%0A%0D%0AFair enough%2C I thought%3B they%27re reorganizing the processes all the time%2C and a new edition of a major product would be the prime time to go to that well again.  I don%27t much like it when they rearrange all the deck chairs%2C but this too shall pass.%0D%0A%0D%0AToday%2C I arrived for the meeting to find that%2C in addition to my boss and his boss%2C they%27d invited one of the guys from HR.  Hmm.%0D%0A%0D%0AAt which point my boss%27s boss%2C %5Bi%5Dreading from a prepared statement%5B%2Fi%5D like some kind of enscandaled congressman%2C informed me without a pause that%3A%0D%0A%0D%0A1%29 The new process for the Second Edition will be%2C in essence%2C to outsource it to %28literally%29 India.%0D%0A%0D%0A2%29 That being the case%2C they won%27t need anyone who does the things I do.%0D%0A%0D%0A3%29 As of June 24 %5Bi%5Dif not earlier%5B%2Fi%5D%2C my position will be replaced by a new one%2C in the same slot on the org chart%2C the inhabitant of which will be a Project Coordinator interfacing with the team of Indians who will have r eplaced me.%0D%0A%0D%0A4%29 I%27m free to apply for that position%26mdash%3Bvia the job posting on the company website%2C like any rando off the street.  There%27s no internal hiring process nor any advantage to already being an employee.%0D%0A%0D%0A4a%29 I can also apply for any other opening in the company I feel I%27m qualified for%2C with the same caveat.%0D%0A%0D%0A5%29 If I don%27t%2C or I don%27t get it%2C I%27ll be done on June 24%26mdash%3Bunless they hire someone for the new position %5Bi%5Dbefore%5B%2Fi%5D then%2C in which case I%27m gone instantly.%0D%0A%0D%0A6%29 At that point%2C I%27ll get three weeks%27 severance pay%2C %5Bi%5Dif%5B%2Fi%5D I%27m deemed to have remained Positive and Professional about the whole business during my dead-man-walking period. No consideration for four years of service%2C three of them spent doing whatever bizarre%2C not-what-I-was-hired-for nonsense they asked of me%3B no explanation why %5Bi%5Dthis%5B%2Fi%5D time the whole position%27s been revamped under me is so different from the previous ones that I%27m not fit to stay in it%3B not the slightest whiff of awareness of how ridiculous it is for a %5Bi%5Dnon-profit%5B%2Fi%5D to be outsourcing shit to India in the first place.%0D%0A%0D%0AY%27know%2C when I was a kid%2C I didn%27t get why unions were still a thing.  They seemed no longer necessary%26mdash%3Ba good idea whose time had passed. You%27re responsible for getting me my own job in the first place%2C rather indirectly.
