But they%27re so close it%27s not really worth arguing about. Are they easy to carry or do you %0D%0A%3Ehave to be really muscular to carry one of those %0D%0A%3Ethings%3F %0D%0A%0D%0AIt%27s a six-foot %282m%29 blade and a 1-foot hilt%2C that%27s 7%27 of steel... it%27s not light%2C but it%27s carryable by the average adult. Wielding he thing is another matter. Even well balanced%2C that%27s a lot of steel to be waving around for any period of time. If you%27re not trained in it%2C you%27re not gonna do much more than annoy the people around you. If you are trained in it%2C you%27d better have some serious endurance if you%27re in an extended battle. For a duel%2C well... duels don%27t generally last too long... Samurai don%27t do a whole lot of dodging%3A they do a lot of blocking%2Fparrying. When your sword can cut through theirs if they try to block%2C you have a definite advantage.%0D%0A%0D%0A-Craig

Because a really effective cavalry army is much more difficult to build than a good infantry one... after all%2C the Mongols are basically the only ones who managed it. Horses eat five times as much as a man%2C they make you a bigger target for ranged weapons and disciplined infantry can stand them off indefinitely because virtually no horse is dumb enough to charge INTO a pike wall or fortifications. Of course%2C disciplined infantry aren%27t all that common historically but htey%27re a damn sight more common than their cavalry equivalents who have a long history of charging off the field at the slightest excuse%3A Naseby%2C Breitenfeld etc.%0D%0A%0D%0AOkay%2C off topic though.
