The dream stage of the United Republic%27s professional benders... and also of its rock musicians.  There are both better and bigger concert venues in Republic City.  The Republic Opera House has vastly superior acoustics%3B Memorial Colosseum seats more than twice as many people.  But for many a Republic-born rocker%2C there is no greater dream than to stand on that canvas-covered steel deck%2C under that ornately filigreed glass dome%2C and lay it down in the round.%0D%0A%0D%0AAzalynn dv%27Ir Natashkan sat crammed into one of the midfield loge boxes with a good many of her friends and watched%2C her heart bursting with pride%2C as five girls from Sakuragaoka lived that dream.  Only a quarter of the way into their planned setlist on this sultry summer night%2C all five were drenched.  Empty water bottles littered the stage%2C accumulating at the base of the drum riser.  All the girls had long since cast off their blazers and untied their ties.  Ritsu had discarded her shirt entirely and was out there in a grey sports bra turned black with sweat%2C her slim shoulders glinting under the lights as she hammered away%3B pausing occasionally to rake her sodden bangs out of her eyes%2C as she%27d lost her headband somewhere along the way too.%0D%0A%0D%0AIt didn%27t seem to be getting any of them down%2C though.  They just drank more water whenever they had a moment to get it on board and rocked on.  The energy in the room - the reason why the Arena was so coveted a gig - wouldn%27t allow for anything else.  They slammed to the end of %22No%2C Thank You%21%22 and paused for breath and further hydration%3B after knocking back a pint of water in one long%2C blissful pull%2C Yui turned her guitar around so it was slung on her back%2C dropped the empty bottle with the other dead soldiers%2C and sprang back to her mic at the front of the stage%2C which was at that moment more or less facing the box where Azalynn sat.%0D%0A%0D%0A%22Good evening%2C Republic City%21%22 she cried%2C dismounting the mic with her left hand and raising her right fist %28plectrum still gripped between her fingers%29 in salute.  It was the first time she%27d spoken since starting the show%2C at which time she%27d said the name of the band and little else.  %22How%27s everybody doing tonight%3F%22%0D%0A%0D%0AShe had to wait for a few moments and let the most thunderous of the cheers die down before her voice could compete with the crowd%27s%2C even amplified as it was.  When they did%2C she went on with a broad%2C shining grin%2C %22I%27m Yui Hirasawa and we%27re H%C5%8Dkago Tea Time%21  Before we go on%2C let me take a few seconds and introduce you to my best friends in the world%21%22%0D%0A%0D%0ASteaming under the stage lights or not%2C Yui still got an arm around the tiny cat-eared girl to her left and gave her a half-hug%2C eliciting a rolled-eyes look of mixed exasperation%2C affection%2C and amusement as she declared%2C %22On my left%2C playing rhythm guitar as though she was being paid for it%2C the relentless but adorable Azusa Nakano%21%22%0D%0A%0D%0AAfter giving her fellow guitarist another squeeze%2C Yui turned her loose and bounded to the other side of the stage%2C announcing%2C %22On my right - like a rock - the First Lady of H%C5%8Dkago Tea Time%2C Mio Akiyama%21%22  With a well-practiced move that raised a laugh from the crowd%2C Mio extended her left hand and blocked Yui%27s forehead with her palm%2C forestalling her attempted hug%2C while playing a quick hammer-on riff with her right.  Yui grinned and turned around%2C having evidently expected the block.%0D%0A%0D%0A%22Up in the back%2C on the Lowrey Holiday Deluxe organ - the nicest girl in music%2C Miss Tsumugi Kotobuki%21%22 she cried%2C and Mugi beamed and blasted off a few seconds of a Bach toccata.   %22Showoff%21%22 Yui added gaily%2C then indicated the last of her bandmates and declared%2C %22And to her left - still the best Keith Moon-type drummer in the world - Thunder Dragon herself%2C President-for-Life Ritsu Tainaka%21%22%0D%0A%0D%0AShe let them cheer while she bounced back to her spot front and center%3B then%2C panting slightly with her exertions%2C she plugged her mic back onto its stand%2C held up a hand for quiet%2C and said%2C %22Thank you%21  Please.  Time is short.  And right now... %22  She paused%2C catching her breath%2C and brought G%C4%ABta around to her front again.  %22Right now... right now it%27s time to...%22  She gathered herself as the house fell almost silent%2C her eyes closed as if in concentration. Even without the reveal at the end%2C it%27d be pretty obvious that it was - I%27m 95%25 certain Yui doesn%27t even %5Bi%5Dknow%5B%2Fi%5D the word %22muthafuckas%22%2C much less possess any willingness to shout it into a live microphone in front of 20%2C000 people. %3A%29  However%2C there are a couple of little details in it I hoped those familiar with the source would take note of%2C to wit%3A%0D%0A%0D%0A - Azusa is %5Bi%5Dnot%5B%2Fi%5D wearing the comedy cosplay cat ears on stage.%0D%0A%0D%0A - The revolving in-the-round stage could hypothetically be a problem%3F  But it is fairly well established in the %5Bi%5DK-On%21%5B%2Fi%5D movie that Mio is only afraid of revolving things when she%27s %5Bi%5Dlooking%5B%2Fi%5D at them.%0D%0A%0D%0A - Most of the phrases Yui uses to introduce her bandmates are cribbed from the way Stuart Adamson introduces the other members of Big Country on %5Bi%5DCome Up Screaming%5B%2Fi%5D %28the band%27s last live album%29%2C but the title she gives to Mio is not accidental - although%2C as the disclaimer in that one episode of %5Bi%5DArpeggio of Blue Steel%5B%2Fi%5D put it%2C %22be advised that this is Azalynn%27s mental image%22. %3A%29%0D%0A%0D%0A--G.%0D%0A-%3E%3C-%0D%0ABenjamin D.
