"New Frontier Trailer No. 2"

LAST EDITED ON Apr-03-09 AT 11:48 PM (EDT)

[designed by Geoff Depew]

/* Robert Fripp
"Here Comes The Flood"
(performed by Peter Gabriel)
Exposure (1979) */

When the night shows
The signals grow on radios

FADE UP ON:

INT - HOUSE - NIGHT

SISTER DESTINY is sitting, reading, and looks up as the phone rings.

All the strange things
They come and go, as early warnings

GEOFF DEPEW comes out of the kitchen as KONOKO KOKOROMI comes down the stairs. SISTER DESTINY lowers the phone.

DESTINY

It's coming.

Stranded starfish have no place to hide
Still waiting for the swollen Easter tide
There's no point in direction
We cannot even choose a side

FADE TO:

EXT. - OUTDOORS, FOREST - NIGHT

GEOFF, KONOKO and SISTER DESTINY in back-to-back-to-back triangle, guns blazing at shadowy figures charging at them through trees

I took the old track
The hollow shoulder, across the waters

A burst of lightning crosses the screen, causing a wipe to:

INT. - CABIN - ARTIFICAL LIGHT, NO WINDOWS

LOGAN is pulling rucksacks out of a storage compartment under the floor of a cabin, handing them to GEOFF, KONOKO, DESTINY and MAKOTO KINO.

LOGAN

We got no choice but to make a run for the IPO testing facility, hope the stargate there still works and we can regroup.

On the tall cliffs
They were getting older, sons and daughters

EXT. - DAY

The five moving at a jog through the hills of Tomodachi - with SAYA OTONASHI (wearing dark sunglasses), PENANCE, LAIN IWAKURA (who has a communication backpack instead of a rucksack) and KIRIKA YUUMIRA (watching the back of the column) following them behind.

The jaded underworld was riding high
Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky
And as the nail sunk in the cloud,
The rain was warm and soaked the crowd

EXT. - DAY

GEOFF DEPEW, under a rust-colored sky, performs Matrix-like maneuvers as he battles a horde of dark, puffy creatures; one hand and his forehead are bloody, the blood running over an eye, as he shoots, lips pulled back from his teeth.

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood

EXT. - SPACE

Missiles start to fall towards a green planet.

If again the seas are silent
In any still alive

EXT. - FOREST

Missiles land, with massive impacts that cause trees to fall over, but no explosions.

It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry

EXT. - MOUNTAINS

LOGAN looks out from a cliff. His jaw tightens until the cigar he's smoking falls out, bitten through. SLOW MOTION on it falling towards the ground.

When the flood calls,
You have no home, you have no walls

CUT QUICK TO

EXT. - FOREST

Another impact, and then the sound and dim image of something rising within the smoke.

In the thunder crash
You're a thousand minds, within a flash

EXT. - FOREST

MASSIVE CREATURES OF ILL-DEFINED SHAPE tromp through the forest, shattering trees.

Don't be afraid to cry at what you see
The actors gone, there's only you and me
And if we break before the dawn
They'll use up what we used to be

EXT. - SUBURBS

MAKOTO KINO unleashes a massive blast into the heart of one of the MASSIVE CREATURES, toppling it, then collapsing herself as a cloud of dust rolls over her.

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood

FADE TO

INT. - OFFICE

Close up on SHOCKWAVE ALBERTO's eyes, the flesh one slightly narrowed. PULL BACK to show him smiling, FALCON GOLD sitting on the edge of his desk, her own eyes glowing in her mask.

If again, the seas are silent
In any still alive

FADE TO

INT. - TEMPLE

BELLDANDY, URD and SKULD praying, KEIICHI and the twins behind them, disappearing into a glow of light.

It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry

INT. - IPO STARGATE ROOM

STARGATE closes suddenly, the lights going dark in the room and emergency lights coming up, GEOFF DEPEW and LOGAN standing there. Part of the ceiling collapses, and something roars as it enters.

LOGAN

You ready, bub?

GEOFF

And they will know that we are servants of the LORD when we strike them down with swift vengeance!

BOTH take combat stances, with mirrored half-smiles, then charge the camera.

CRASH TO BLACK.

Saya, Penance, Lain, and Kirika?

Jesus...

Well, not really, he's not on the list, but good lord. An assassin that could give Geoff with implant active a run for his money, a woman who's very existence is that of a living melee weapon, a living hacker goddess (sorry Nene & Vision), and then the origins of one of the vampire races. That's the SpecOps team from hell. A very good looking hell, especially if its the Blood+ version of Saya, but still hell.

>Well, not really, he's not on the list, but good lord.

Although He has been known to team up with Geoff, He doesn't really fit the theme of the After-School Special Mission Force. :)

>An assassin
>that could give Geoff with implant active a run for his money, a woman
>who's very existence is that of a living melee weapon,

Penny's a skraeling, one of the least of Muspelheim's namebearing races (that is, the ones intelligent enough to have individual names). They're only sharp-edged when they're stressed. Of course, as the low men on the totem pole in a place not known for treating the lowly well, they're stressed pretty much all the time, but still.

>a living hacker
>goddess (sorry Nene & Vision),

Well. not literally.

>and then the origins of one of the
>vampire races.

The vampire race, if you're speaking specifically of the sanguivorus curse.

>That's the SpecOps team from hell. A very good looking
>hell, especially if its the Blood+ version of Saya, but still hell.

She is, yes.

Gryph, I've been trying to match your ability to make disparate sources fit together and make sense within one paragraph for YEARS and I'm not even coming close.

Is there some secret to how you do it? Or does it just, well, happen?

Cheers,
Cal.

Over the years I've found that it's most often a spontaneous process, and that, indeed, when I deliberately set out to dovetail things together, it generally doesn't work as well. Having a relational database of pop culture references in one's head is, as with many such things, both blessing and curse. :)

It was said at times that Robert E. Howard would feel like Conan (yes, we all know he's fictional) was behind him, pushing him to write the adventures of the barbarian.

I think that might well apply to many authors that look over a universe of their own making- it begins to work both ways in being created.

If it ever gets too intense in the head, try executing the following statement in the database:

delete from BRAIN.POP_CULTURE where CONTENT like '%crazy%';

It may help. ;-p

I think Kirika is a Yuumura, not Yuumira.

All 5 trailers look promising, but personally I would like to see the completion of the Symphony of Swords before any of these come out. Personal opinion only, YMMV.

Which story gets worked on depends on which of his (many) muses currently has possession of Gryphon. 8P

8P Sorry, 'Which story Gyphon works on depends on which of his (many) muses currently has possession of him.' And of course, the rest of the crew no doubt occassionally suffer from battling muses as well.

Then we just have to distract the rest of his muses with free chocolates, red wine, and free trips to a spa. That and bribe the Symphony muse with triple that to stick around.
