The issue is that they took on a massive amount of debt in order to afford the purchase, and they're trying to pay off that debt by, essentially, burning down the studio for the insurance money.

Oh, but it gets worse - they're apparently looking for a buyer.
So, they have no actual interest in owning or managing a studio, they just want to flip it.
For maximum short-term profit.

A) Happened mostly because people started speaking out about toxic working conditions and executive bullshit, along with at least one person getting caught using their position to take sexual advantage of fans, which involved the phrase 'technically they weren't underage!'. *Shudder* Rather than address the issue, they claimed they would, then went after the whistleblowers. That happened several times, which was a large part of what lead into -

B) Let's be honest, the parasocial relationship between RT and its fans has always been weird, thanks to the companies origins and the timing of said origins, with things like twitter. Honestly, there were issues with how they interacted with fans as far back as the early days of RWBY. You see it with some other internet personalities as well, but RT... ohhh boy. The more 'traditional' management that came in over time often tried to use it in ways that were counter-productive at best and outright disasters at worst. And some of RTs internet personalities didn't realize how peoples perception of them changed, so when they tried damage control for the third or fourth time the companies bullshit had been exposed and fans and ex-employees snapped back at them, things got ugly. Mostly on RTs side.

I still haven't recovered from the end of V8. That wasn't needed for the story, either the main plot, Rubys storyline (She already had enough to drive her to breaking point without that blow), Winters storyline, or Jaunes... And she was one of my favorite characters dammit!

Yeah, I call horseshit on that one. It was largely a character development season with some pieces of worldbuilding, but that doesn't make it filler.

To be fair, the RWDE are really dedicated to screaming that the Bees are 'pandering to the fans/shoved in without setup/betraying Sun' almost as much as they scream that CRWBY are betraying montys vision somehow... Usually something about Roman, Adam or Ironwood not being the main characters and always right.

My worry is that we're looking at a "GoT Season 8" scenario, where there's either not enough material or not enough money to produce a season grand enough to bring the whole thing to a satisfying finish, so what we get instead is a rush to an ending that nobody is pleased with.
