"Spring anime?"

Anyone looking forward to-slash-following anything this season?

I'm watching Reincarnated as a 7th Prince, because I read the manga. It looks amazing, and the art style changes between 'cool' and 'blob' are perfect. Spell effects are breathtaking~

Other than that, I don't think I've got my eye on anything yet...coming off of Winter, this is weirdly empty of anything immediately interesting. No Unwanted Undead, no Apothecary Diaries, no Shangri-La Frontier...oh wait, Laid-Back Camp season 3! I forgot about that because I'm watching it with a friend and they haven't been available since the first episode!

Currently, I'm only following three shows:

Mission Yozakura Family, which is a manga I've been reading since day 1.
Black Butler, because I enjoyed the earlier seasons.
And Bartender: Glass of God, to satisfy my iyashikei fix.

I was very excited that there's an anime for Jisan Baasan Wakageru (Grandpa and Grandma are Young Again)

I'm not saying there's any wish fulfilment in the heartwarming story of a elderly couple who suddenly find themselves mysteriously rejuvenated to their young, healthy bodies and now wind up dealing with their children, grandchildren, neighbours with this change.

...no, wait, there is a LOT of wish fulfilment in having youth and health, never mind those fantasy worlds.

D.

It is a little thin out there this season.

Still, I have The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Gods Games We Play, Train to the End of the World, Vampire Dormitory, Kaiju No. 8, Astro Note, and Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included.

Plus some others that I like but won't recommend.

Ah, Train to the end of the world, that’s one that seems interesting, actually. I’ll have to give that a poke, thanks for reminding me it exists~

Well now you're just taunting me.

"Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included" has my attention just from the name. (And reading a summary is giving me Pita-Ten vibes, which is a Good Thing.)

I know my biases, and some of them aren't good.

Male-dominant power fantasy, with 90% chance of harem? I like it, sure, but that doesn't mean it's good. At the bottom of this particular barrel, one of the ones I'm watching this season is fun, but it's also clearly meant to make doujinshi creators drool over the pornographic potential. I can't recommend any of them, because I know I'll forgive a lot of bad plotting if there's enough Protagonist SMASH puny bad guy in it.

Anyway, that's three down right there.

After watching some, I think Dragon Raja -The Blazing Dawn- might be more recommendable than I originally thought, but the worldbuilding is a bit difficult to get into.

Never said that - just that my bias makes me less likely to question the quality properly.

The manga for this one is pretty good (good enough that it was slated to end at 3 volumes but then got renewed), though I do have to snark at the series being classed as GL so far. Like, if I squint there's -something- there but I kind of have to agree with a comment I saw in passing that "that was the most heterosexual shared bath scene ever". Unfortunately no one's translating the novel right now, which is the medium I spend most of my time in these days.

I expected Cute Girls Doing Cute Things with a side order of dramatic tension, and that's what I'm getting. Now that I think about it, it's mining the same space as Heroines Run the Show, which I enjoyed greatly.

Reporting back... (this is actually the first live airing anime I've watched in years)

Solid 7.5ish. As noted, looks like a CGDCT show, more like a drama/work show.

Mekuru best character, don't @ me. :)

As for my snark about the GL tag, the manga and LN ARE both tagged as such...but that's apparently a late change for like volume 4-6+ or even later novel wise. Haven't found out yet whether that's the way the story develops naturally or it's a popularity based change. We'll see how long it takes to see more of this in the future, manga TL is kinda slow though not that far behind what's out and no one's translating the novel, nor has it been licensed (with like 8 volumes out).

Well, since nobody else seems like to mention it, this season we're getting a remake of one of my absolute favorites of all time: Spice and Wolf.

For any not familiar: Spice and Wolf follows the story of Kraft Lawrence, a traveling merchant looking to make his fortune in business, and Holo the Wise Wolf, a great wolf from an unnamed region in the "far north" who has spent the last several centuries as the local God of the Harvest for a village that Lawrence buys grain from. Holo has decided it's time she returned home, and Lawrence and his cart provide the perfect opportunity both to escape her village, and maybe have a traveling companion along the way.

It's a very generic medieval setting, with a lean towards Italian influences in things like names of places and the like. The story is mostly very chill, though "the Church" is a major player in the shadows and Lawrence -is- traveling with a "pagan deity", so it's not all slice-of-medieval-life and economics lesson.

The original show went two seasons back in `08 and `09, before just abruptly ending. They released a movie as well, but it was set in the middle of the second season and so there was never any closure. This remake involves almost the entire same cast of main voice talent, as well as the original director. The plan is to fully finish and complete the story this time; apparently a major plot thread was left out of the original two-season run in addition to it never getting a proper ending.

I loved the original, disappointing ending and all, and so far the remake is even better.

Never watched the first, might do the new one later. As I understand it, this is a bit of an FMA Brotherhood situation, with the thing not having finished before, and the original anime having skipped an arc that seemed inconsequential at the time but....wasn’t. So they’re calling a do-over :)
