Hm, disagreed. My view of history is that the value of deterrence is highly overrated. WWI and the Pacific War of WWII were due in significant part to military threat- that is, various powers went to war to neutralize a military power. Furthermore, deterrence only works when rational thought is present on both sides... something which, in Earth history, is extremely rare.
