Derek's books are quite well-known. Anyone with a reasonable amount of education - like, say, Azalynn - will know what they are, especially Parallel Dimension; it's one of the most famous titles in the series, along with So You've Become Unstuck in Time.

Azalynn didn't necessarily know that Utena was from another world, though she might have. What she demonstrably knew, from having been in Morgan 401 and being a remarkably perceptive creature, was that Utena had a copy of that book. The rest is deductive reasoning, a thing Azalynn is quite good at.
