Nobody really knows why Kate stutters. Theories range from "it's all in her head" to "something to do with the assassination attempt on her mother a couple weeks before she was born". Investigations have been made, but haven't turned up anything. We'll also see in the next episode that there's another special condition under which she doesn't do it, which lends credence to the psychological theory.

(I'm not eager to define it fully myself; it's a trait that the character came to me having, and I don't really feel the need to nail it down much beyond that. If I had to make a guess, though, I'd say it's a combination of several factors, psychology among them. It does get worse when she's under stress, except in the case of extreme anger, where it goes away entirely.)

As for Detian physiology, it's kind of odd, especially in second and subsequent generations. When we first meet her in Wounded Rose, Kaitlyn isn't a regenerative immortal yet; she hasn't finished growing, and in born Detians (as opposed to made ones), that's when it "locks in", if you will. That's why she needs glasses; that need will probably go away when she reaches adulthood and "freezes".

>Bring on more Corwin. Bring on the other two brothers and Priss, too.

They'll all be in A Rose at Christmas, and Sylv too - fun for the whole family.
