Actually, I've had similar problems. These days I seem to be react to most fiction in regards to UF. Star Trek IV was on the other week, and my response was along to lines of 'Hang on, Kirks meant to be in the WDF now? And where's the Enterprise?'

Return of the Jedi was even worse. I think I'm doing this because the UF universe actually makes sense, unlike a lot of the series it steals/borrows from. Don't believe me? Read the expanded Star Wars universe, if you dare.
