actually, the passage I was referring to was this one:

An image came suddenly to her mind's eye: a gentle, kind, and

him to Utena's mind, and now his face was as clear to her as if he,
not Kate, were lying in her arms. If he were here, he could help, he

considerable heart. It was in his nature. Utena could see him, hear
him, almost -feel- him - the concern written on his earnest face, the
deftness of his hands at the keys, the instinctive understanding in
his heart for the pain of a fellow musician.

place where he was needed now by the same unfathomable gulf that had
left Utena Tenjou with only half a heart.
Cursing the universe, Utena fell asleep with his image still

That's all Utena thinking, not Kait...sure, Utena wanted Miki for Kait, but it was still Utena wanting...
