Core #1!!!!

That is my all-time favorite! Although Gryphon's hisory of Cybertron was the first UF/EPU story I read, Core #1 was the first I read realizing what I was reading -- don't ask me to explain that. Anyway...

I started Core #1 late one Friday night (9-10, late being when the family started to go to bed) and stayed up until 6 or so the next morning. It took me a week to plow through the rest of the week (remind me to tell the short, short tale of when and where I finished #4 sometime), but what a magical week it was.

Still, Core #1 still remains me favorite. It, imo, grasps the greatness of the Wedge Rats, University Wackiness, computer geekdom, anime/otaku fun, The Dirty Pair, a touch of CyberPunk, and that Douglas Adams feel like no other fiction ever written. That's NOT to say that the others lack, mind you. Each Core and UF story is marvelous and increases the wonder of the universe, but there is just some spark of magic that comes from starting out. Maybe it's the sheer excitement of taking the first step into an adventure, opening the editor to write a program, flipping your PSX on for the very first time. Whatever it is, though, it's something that is very special and it keeps me coming back for more!
