They don't. There's a story arc that comes right after the US-released tapes stop in which the reason Wakaba has Saionji's fighting style becomes vastly obvious.

However, they don't make a whole lot of sense unless you saw the start of the arc (or read http://www.duellists.tj/synop14.html and http://www.duellists.tj/synop15.html and even then, they're kind of obscure without actually seeing the show.)
