The big magic dimensional bubble appearing -inside- the Wedge would have blown the Dramatic and Touching Ending, rendering it merely Dramatic. And possibly harder on bystanders. :)

It would have also made the thruster-burn comment (and the rest of that bit) harder to slide in.
