The planet Hoffman is the heaviest gravity world inhabited by humanoid life. It was settled by a combination of serious genetic engineering and the natural fertility of the soil; Hoffman is, put bluntly, a farm world. Hoffman produces a *LOT* of food, though, including some true galactic delicacies... they also turn out some dandy high explosives as well... and that helps fund their rather extraordinary appetites.

Almost certainly not to the first question, although Mac will hold Moose to a few gratis lessons.

And Mac, having committed, will learn. Mac is a very determined and focused personality (which helps when you have a roommate like G'Kron). Once he decides to learn something, he buckles down and works until he has it cold. That's why you see him most of the time studying; he has a goal in mind and will not be distracted from it.
