You would think with the Coronavirus, and most everyone staying at home, this forum would be a lot more active now than before. But this is like walking into a grocery store and finding bare shelves.....Craig

I've been busy trying to keep my ttrpg group sane; providing counseling for my boss; and organizing both meetings for the morale of the nonprofit hacker education thing and organizing for -another- virtual conference to be held this weekend on top of work...Hell, now that the state's in effectively voluntary quarantine, I'm more socially active than I am during normal times on account of all these folks now can only socialize remotely.

Hunting for supplies, caring for kids who suddenly have no school, scrambling to set up work-from-home (or emergency funding for necessities if they're now out of work,) all that sort of thing. Though I will take this prompt to be grateful for G and the whole EPU author pool for supplying such an extensive library of hopeful entertainment, I expect it will be handy for many in time.

That is my life now. We got 100 people laptops, VPN access, and RDP access in two days. We are now supporting those people + more stragglers over remote. Luckily we got Cisco Jabber up and running so we can take our work calls from home, with the added bonus of being able to reach our ticketing system as well. My whole I.T department is hunkered down at home while I and one other tech go into the office to get the physical stuff done. That being said, working for the Alaska Railroad has its benefits as I am considered to be important personnel as the railroad does work for the military base up here and ships to Fairbanks, I.E I have job security. Which right now feels like a breath of fresh air in all the negativity that is bouncing around. DaemeonX

Yeah, that's just about how I feel. I consider myself incredibly lucky I have a good IT job now. 7 or so years ago, I was serving in restaurants. My family pushed me into getting certs and getting a job that made use of my talents, and I owe them so much just for that kick in the ass I needed. As for telework, I don't even know how often I'll be doing that. My job status is changing on Monday (though not my job itself, for the most part) so the rules are somewhat in the air. I know all about supporting people and helping out more telework stragglers, though! There's no way to image new machines remotely, so anyone teleworking is helping out with the considerable call volume. The biggest problem is telework on this scale is new to us, so we're running into new problems, not just things we know how to fix. Especially problems with configuration that has to be done at work, so they end up having to come in. It's not fun, but hey, we're all learning now. ------ Authors of our fates Orchestrate our fall from grace Poorest players on the stage Our defiance drives us straight to the edge

I've been working from home for more than a week now, which has consumed the usual amount of time. The last few years the frequency with which I check the EPU forums has dropped to about once every couple-few weeks, which I don't think will change much any time soon. Besides, I'm trying to keep the folks on my forums connected and their spirits up.-- Bob ------------------- My race is pacifist and does not believe in war. We kill only out of personal spite.

Since the last time I posted on here (err, assuming that wasn't yesterday or something) I've helped my employer migrate 40 staff to 100% at-home working (leaving 2 people in the office); supported those 40 staff including guiding the on-site staff into doing all kinds of exciting computer support jobs as remote hands, been to Accident and Emergency because I stuck a knife into my finger (fortunately stopping just before the bone), helped keep a whole bunch of extrovert friends alive with video calls, and suffered from a bout of bacterial sinusitis that's left me unclear what month it even is any more. And looked after my husband who had nearly all of the above plus building an entire new system to support people supporting companies needing help with the economic conditions and vestibular neuritis along with the sinus infection.Yesterday he said "today is the first entire day when I've known where 'down' is for a month". I thought lockdown was going to mean extra leisure time, I honestly did! :-D

I've been working from home since mid-March. I've left my property 3 times since then... once to mail a letter, once to stock up on Dew, and a haircut last weekend. As so many have said this year: Time has lost all meaning.
