A B-17 Flying Fortress bomber and P-36 Kingcobra fighter, both belonging to the Commemorative Air Force, were destroyed in a mid-air collision at an airshow in Texas today. There's no official word as yet regarding whether the pilot of the P-63 or any of the five people known to be aboard the B-17 survived, but given the nature of the crash, it seems unlikely that anyone did.

The crash of Texas Raiders is the first loss of a B-17 since the Collings Foundation's Nine-O-Nine replica* crashed at Bradley Field in Connecticut back in 2019, in which seven out of the 13 aboard were killed. According to Wikipedia, there are now only eight airworthy B-17s and no more than three or four P-63s remaining worldwide.

Between this and Kevin Conroy, I'm prepared to call November 12, 2022 a failed day.

* I guess "replica" isn't quite the right word, but it's the best I could think of. This was a real vintage B-17, but was cosplaying as another, more famous one that was scrapped after the war.
