#0, WPI questions

Greetings, fellow kids...time has flown and it's now the z-spawn's turn to look at places of further learning.... we're going to be on WPI campus anyway in a couple of weeks and figured we'd do a self-guided tour of sorts, since the spawn is considering the place and it's a representative example of the "medium-small college campus in a city" species. do any of you have any connection (still) to the campus and have any particular recommendations for buildings to see, or in what order, or anything else to advise? -Z can't believe it's been that long --- Remember kids: guns make you stupid, duck tape makes you smart.

Sadly, I haven't been there in so long, none of what I remember about the place is likely to be relevant now. :/--G. -><- Benjamin D. Not that I ever visited there, but in my attempts of research, I managed to get my hands on a copy of WPI Journal, circa Fall 1993:
Who knows what it looks like now, but fwiw, this is a good visual shorthand for the era of the original Core stories, and the early Symphony stories on Earth. --- Philip

The trapezoid connecting Morgan and Daniels Halls (outlined in red). (apologies for the moire of the scan, it wasn't the best capture at the time (1999) and I forget where I put it to make a better one.) (alternatively - check Google Maps!) --- Philip

Oh *that's* where it is! I didn't see it there, tucked in there, I thought it was an alley!

They've built a whacking great athletics building in that empty area at the top of the ridge between Morgan and Harrington, overlooking the football field, because clearly that was something WPI desperately needed. And it appears they've torn down Alumni Gym and replaced it with a computer center? Then there's that new admissions building that makes the Quad weirdly asymmetrical, and the forest behind Olin Hall has been replaced with the Student Center (marked on this map as the "WPI Odeum"). Oh yeah, and that rounded bit in the L of Morgan wasn't there. I think it's an extension of (or replacement for?) the Morgan dining hall, which was in the first floor of the north-south part of the building in my day. If you zoom in a little more on Google Maps, a tag pops up that claims it's "WPI Pulse on Dining". Also, on Google Maps the tag for "The Wedge" is actually on Morgan Hall. The Wedge is that gray-roofed single-story bit between Morgan on the left and Daniels on the right (hence UF-Kei and Yuri's last names). Fun side fact: most of West Street as it appears in this view was not closed to traffic in my day, as it is now. If you needed to cross from, say, Olin on the west side of the street to Salisbury on the east, you took your life in your hands every time. --G. -><- Benjamin D. I see that Kaven Hall has not, in fact, caved in. Nominative Determinism has been thwarted for the moment, or the kids who study there haven't made any improvements to the building yet."This is probably a stupid question, but . . ."

And a newer computing center is always good for a polytechnic to have. It's going to be cold wandering around tomorrow, though. -Z --- Remember kids: guns make you stupid, duct tape makes you smart.

You are not alone in this, Z. My nephew will be attending, has in fact received early acceptance. So yay him!
