We know relatively little of Alfred Pennyworth's life before he found himself Dr. Thomas Wayne's manservant - who knows? Perhaps butlering is his retirement from a Life of Adventure and Astonishing Promiscuity. :)

And at the same time he's a little creepy, just because he's so damn calm about everything. Roger could be charging off to fight the Devil himself for the fate of all humanity, and all Norman would do is ask if that meant supper wouldn't be at the usual time. :)
