I think this is only with certain types of RAM - like with my ABit KG-7, it has 4 DIMM slots but you can only use 2 with unregistered DIMMs. You need registered DIMMs to use all 4.

With the speed of processors today I don't really see the need to overclock. I did it with an old K6-2 system I had.
