First of all, I'd like preface this by saying I did search the forums for related posts before posting, however I apologize very much if somebody already mentioned it.

Has anyone here heard of Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator? I came across it recently and thought it looked very interesting.

Just something I thought the community might enjoy.

I had many much funs with it last year, and I'm told it's been improved since, so I have a date with destiny some friends and some Totally Not Star Trek Aliens at the beginning of next month. I look forward to seeing what's new.

Whenever someone talks about Artemis, I feel compelled to bring up Spaceteam, which is kind of like Artemis's hyperactive cousin. Analogy time: Spaceteam is to Artemis as Kerbal Space Program is to Orbiter.

It's much more of a thrown-together party game, with a lot of yelling, a lot of confusion, a lot of failure, and a lot of laughter. The controls are nonsensical, you sound like a madman when you're telling your friends to actuate them, and everything is falling apart.

But once you're done, and you've finished yelling at the guy who didn't frob the mode select switch, you want to give it another go.

Looks like way too much fun.

Also reminds me of a book I came across in the local library many moons ago, that gave instructions and BASIC program listings to set up a primitive version of this using Ethernet-linked PCs.

For those who are interested, a YouTube search for "jccc artemis" will bring you three vids of celebrities playing Artemis (very badly). Haven't had a chance to watch all three yet, but the first one is linked below, and has Bill Corbett (of MST3K/RiffTrax):

Also, in my random perusaling, I was reminded of a somewhat similar idea from many years ago called Dangerous Waters. A fairly realistic (from what I've heard) submarine sim that allows you to set up a server and play with many different people on the same ship, each in a different station. It's available on Steam.
