The claim was that his dental work (accidentally) functioned as a basic crystal radio, and he was picking up strong local AM signals. Not all that far-fetched, as a crystal receiver is so simple and so low-tech that a good functional one could arguably be made with 18th-century technology. (It's the transmitter that's a bit higher-tech.)Sadly, as I recall, the story's been debunked. It sounds plausible but apparently doesn't work in real life.
