Well, another variation, which does mention the supposedly original, appears in the Modesty Blaise story(book story, as opposed to comic story) The Impossible Virgin, which was published in 1971, so the previous must be a bit earlier than that. Doesn't mean it isn't bunk, of course, just a note on how OLD the story is. And might actually be the reason I remember it, which would then point FURTHER towards it being bunk, my memory being, AT BEST, a second-hand story.

The re-made variant in the story, incidentally, has a poor girl with STRONG religious feelings seducing and killing people left and right, because God told her that it's right and proper that she do so.
'God' turns out to be her utter bastard of an adopted 'father', who not only has a miniature receiver(real one), inserted into a fake tooth, but then makes little tapes of instructions(with modulated voice), which he then plays over a dedicated transmitter.
