Lo these many years ago, I took a drawing class in college. I'm not quite sure how I passed what amounted to an audition to prove I had talent, because I don't, but I finagled it somehow. Anyway, the instructor was very much an ART HAS MEANING AND IS SERIOUS BUSINESS kind of guy and I got tired of his over-intensity quickly enough. And what sealed things for me was the day I simply got tired of trying to Make Art, and just started mindlessly stamping brush prints of india ink on the paper on my easel, in diagonal lines.

He came over and praised it as the most inspired and artistic thing I'd done all semester.

I never took another art course again.
