My recollection is that r.a.a.c. didn't appear until my sophomore year, and a bit of Googling provided me with some limited results on crossroads. Not sure if chapter 1 (or the general announcement, for that matter) was posted the same day or the day before, but the headers (if not the body) of chapter 2 are in Google Groups' cache as being posted to rec.arts.anime on 2/27/93. Which sounds about right to me - I'd only really found usenet back in November or so, and was heavily back into Robotech, having rediscovered it through a friend of a friend...
