No, I can't think of any environmental source for a sound like that. The pronounced background hum in some of my older recordings was the giant turbofan cooling system on my old web server, but that's no longer in service and it's nice and quiet in here now, except for the traffic noises outside. If it's continuous, it could be an A/D or compression artifact of some kind... not really sure. I can't hear it on my desktop speakers.
