Your points would be valid... if Nall had killed anyone before. I can't remember him doing it, though I'm more than willing to be proven wrong about it. I'm given to understand that when you kill a person for the first time, you're shaken up by it. You retreat into yourself a little to examine who you are in this new, terrifying context. You are a killer. Doesn't matter how bad the other person was, at least at first. You are a killer. It is a life-changing event, and coming to terms with it takes time.

If that's "whining like a twelve-year-old girl" to you, then... well, it is. I can't make you change your mind. What I can do is say, not without justification, that it makes you sound adolescent.
