That said, I give points to the animators for using the "Fubuki class was top-heavy and didn't handle well" thing as a plot point without reaching for the obvious gag in re "top-heavy". The problem appears to be with her rig, not the girl herself. (The Mogami class as originally constructed had a similar problem, actually, which is probably also part of why the KanColle version is portrayed as clumsy - although they fixed that in the real ship with the "fake light cruiser to real heavy cruiser" upgrade.)

Upon reflection, they remind me more than a little of Karana and Azana. The latter isn't as grimly restrained as Nagato (and, conversely, doesn't really have a "rarely seen goofy-ass" mode :), but Mutsu and Karana are a lot alike, right down to their "god, you can be so damn dense sometimes, woman" moments toward their partners. :)

For what it's worth, Hiei would certainly not argue with you on that point. :)

The moment becomes even slightly funnier if you picture their hypothetical Fog hybrid versions doing that, because while they're in the office doing their shtick, their ships are out in the harbor actually firing colored smoke and presumably scaring the socks off of dockworkers, who have no context for why it's happening. :)
