IIRC, the way it broke down in the ancient FI tech file was that the WDF ships named after American battleships were Iowa-class (that is, Star Trek-style ships, in-universe products of Zetan shipyards; the Iowa class in UF is what is canonically the Ambassador class, because it didn't have a canonical name at the time), while those named after Japanese battleships are Salusian-built Argo-class vessels (i.e., they look like the Yamato in Space Battleship Yamato).

In neither case do they look very much like the real battleship Yamato, although the Argo class comes closer - it at least looks like some kind of old-timey naval battleship. :)
