https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y84b7nHOMmcI don't know how many of you are familiar with the Super Robot Wars series, but it's included a lot of the mecha and some space opera shows that have shown up in UF and for the first time Magic Knights Rayearth appears, making its debut in this new game Super Robot Wars T. Also of interest in terms of newcomers is Cowboy Bebop, as well as Captain Harlock: Arcadia of my Youth SSX and a rather cool movie called Expelled From Paradise. It's due out for a 2019 release and will be in english! Although only in asian markets, so people will have to import.

I thought the mecha genre had been pretty quite the last few years (with the exception of long-runner's like Gundam.)I mean, I know there have been a few, but its been basically one or two a year for the last few years.

>I thought the mecha genre had been pretty quite the last few years >(with the exception of long-runner's like Gundam.) That doesn't seem to be stopping the makers of Super Robot Wars. Your mileage may vary, but I don't remember the giant robots part of Cowboy Bebop, for example. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. SRW robots range in scale from human-sized cyborgs (Guy Shishio) all the way up to... I want to say Buster Machine 7 (DieBuster) (I'm not sure if anything larger has appeared in a SRW game). So yeah, scale doesn't matter, so the ships and powered loaders from Cowboy Bebop fit right in.

Which reminds me, apropos of nothing, of Jer Johnson's reaction to Buster Machine #3 when we watched Gunbuster, lo these many aeons ago."They've... they've got Jupiter in there." --G. -><- Benjamin D. They ran with second Gurren-Lagann movie. So, Super Galaxy *Random Protagonist Mecha*.That includes Chirico in galaxy-sized Scopedog. Opening the cockpit and shooting his enemies with a pistol. Once. They usually explode after that.

And you know what? Spike and Company fit in better than the Rayearth stuff. Spike & Co. are all part of a "wild west" Mars, covering Bebop, Nadesico and Gun-Sword. Rayearth is wedged in there with some hackery courtesy of Dunbine. Apparently the Aura Road not only connects Byston Well to the upper world of Earth, it also connects to Cephiro and Autozam. But at least that makes more sense than representatives from Votoms and Expelled from Paradise which are... kinda... just... there because... an enemy did it?

Ehhh, that tends to happen in SRW games. My favorite game, Alpha 3, just drops the VirtualON trio in and nobody has any idea why or how they're there, or how or why they're sentient, or how and why they're physical objects, least of all the Virtuals. In the end everybody just kinda shrugs and goes about their day. Meta-wise, it's because they can only incorporate so many series into the storyline, some of them just don't fit. Corporate mandates, or just because they want to and CAN brings them in. (interestingly, what I've heard is that Gainax initially refused to let NGE into Super Robot Wars, but Anno said, basically "My stuff can be beside Mazinger and Getter Robo?? *Do it.*" and thus began Shinji's actual *character progression* which allowed him to tell Kira fom Gundam Seed to suck it the frig up. Sure, End of Evangelion still happened, mostly, but it was entirely because of Gendou's fuckery behind the scenes.)

The last few SRW games have done much the same thing with the main line Gundam universe culminating in the events of SRW-T: Amuro and Kamille have grown up (Amuro being best buddies with Ryoma and Koji is hysterical), Judao stopped being a dick, and the Stalinization of "Char's Counterattack" and subsequent rewrite *makes sense*. Pity that it only makes sense within the context of SRW-T's story but it's a thing I can live with.

Personally, I still love the fact that the series has to be sold under the name Super Robot Taisen to avoid confusion with the, er, pre-existing Robot Wars. Which I always thought was super anyway, we just didn't make such a fuss about it. =]--- "She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards. don't lie, you would kill to see a giant sir killalot fight a gundam of some description

I just love the idea of some weebotron thinking they're going up against the usual Untrained Teenage Pilot In The Last Remaining Prototype but in reality they get... the Sergeant. Scaled up to mecha size. I am not even sure how a flamethrower that big would work but I WANT. ONE.Also, claw on the front and giant circular saw on the back. Crush. Kill. Destroy. Bicker about why it wasn't brought back for the reboot series. --- "She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards.
