#0, Strike Witches: Road to Berlin
Posted by jhosmer1 on Oct-19-20 at 12:57 PM
Crunchyroll has a new Strike Witches series out, and it looks pretty good so far. Not to spoil too much, but the first episode has:

* Mio and Hijikata coming to get Miyafuji
* A bear (not Wojtek, sorry)
* Miyafuji running off to show some "two-fisted compassion"
* Lots of panty shots.

So, like pretty much every other episode 1.

As a "retired" witch, Mio's outfit has changed.

Apparently you finally get some uniform pants when you lose your magic.

She's not giving up on the game entirely, yet, so I hope that they give her some awesome moments in the series.

Oh, Gryph, in the series, they show a naval ship with "anti-Neuroi armor." It seems to be some sort of defense shield they can turn on and off, and it lets the ship take a few shots from a Neuroi without major damage. It's nice to see that non-witches have managed to do something to improve their ability to fight without it going Warlock. Maybe they got Tesla to design something. ;)

Atomic Robo/Strike Witches x-over? Now THAT'D be something to see!

Technically, Gryph has already done that, with the Lightning Gun and Clevinger and Wegner showing up.

I'd say she pulls the trousers off. Not that she wouldn't literally pull them off in a heartbeat if she could use Strikers again, of course.

And for world-building we see non-witches both wearing skirts and not. (a background mother is wearing one, Miyafuji's classmate goes bareleg).

Oh boy. Episode three.

Hattori, I can practically see the sakura blossoms even though there are none on the screen.

And stop raising doom flags! You almost killed Yoshika!

We're 8 episodes in, and while there is plenty I like, there are a few things I'm not as happy with. Some small spoilers below.

* Mio has disappeared from the story, though she can be seen in a few scenes. This detracts from Perrine, as I don't think she gets as much screen time any more without her gushing over the Major. (She does get an episode where she helps the Queen of the Netherlands, so a call back to her noble origins.)
* It's apparently Lynne/Perrine and Yoshika/Shizuka now.
* Yoshika's too powerful? Let's create a poorly explained problem with her magic. And if they fix that, let's create another poorly explained problem.
* Episode 7, the "let's bring a strange item onto the base" is... um... well... breast expansion zombies. But touching breasts helps Yoshika's power problem, so... yay?
* Episode 8 does not begin with Sanya flying exhaustedly back to the base.

All that said, there are still some things I like. One episode has Hartmann down behind enemy lines, and Trude proceeds to completely lose her shit.

I may be reading too much into it, but that's the way it seems. Lynne gets more time with Perrine than she does with Yoshika, and Shizuka definitely gets more time with Yoshika than Lynne does. (I don't mind Shizuka's obvious girl crush on Yoshika, but I like Lynne/Yoshika better as a pairing.)

Mio's absence means there's no Minna/Mio either, but at least Minna doesn't seem to be moving on, and when Mio is present, Minna's usually right beside her.
