#0, Metaspace?

In the UF-verse, Metaspace is the same "Hyperspace" seen in Babylon 5. The name was changed because the UF-verse already had a version of Hyperspace, drawn from the Star Wars universe. I believe we all know that.However, where does the name "Metaspace" come from? Is it original with UF?
