So last night I actually got around to proofing the TIA recordings, and, um, wow. I had no idea that there was so much ridiculously extraneous mic noise, nor that the encoding on the new parts (tia01-06 and beyond) sucked so much. Maybe the problems are just more obvious through headphones than speakers, I'm not sure, but damn.Er, sorry about that. The spot checks I did when I recorded them sounded okay, but I wasn't giving them terribly close attention and I wasn't using an iPod. Going to have to re-think how I do these things, I think... --G. -><- Benjamin D. Hutchins, Co-Founder, Editor-in-Chief, & Forum Admin Eyrie Productions, Unlimited http://www.eyrie-productions.com/

I was actually listening to them last night - didn't think they were that bad. I mean, you are doing this for free. I don't expect you to have studio filter quality sound. :D

Perhaps you would like to look at Shure's line of wireless and wired handhelds? I'm fairly certain that they'll have something that would suit your needs. Though most of their clientelle is in the form of professional musicians, I myself regularly see their microphones in surprising places. >Perhaps you would like to look at Shure's line of wireless and wired >handhelds?Well, I don't actually use a handheld, I just felt like quoting the Beastie Boys. At the moment I'm using a Plantronics headset with a boom mic. I think it was originally designed for teleconferencing, but it works a lot better than the tiny clip-on electret mic I was using for earlier recordings (like Hogtown Rhapsody), when I managed to position the mic correctly so that it doesn't thump every time I say a percussive consonant (and when I remember that I can't touch, adjust, or scratch my head near the headset while I'm recording, because, as I recently discovered to my chagrin, that is clearly audible - oops). That said, I've long thought that if I had the money/were really serious about this recording gig, I'd get a 55SH. (Just like Kaitlyn uses! :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Yeah, I didn't get that lyric either until someone pointed out those circular frames with the sound-permeable material they put in front of the microphones in voice recording booths. That material? Word on the street is that the Snowball mics are nearly unbeatable in the consumer market. http://www.bluemic.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Products&file=index&prod_id=18 price point's a lot lower than a Shure 55, last time I checked. -- Kokuten Daysleeper RCW #13013 (Insert Witticism Here)

>price point's a lot lower than a Shure 55, last time I checked. Not hugely; I mean, Guitar Center lists the 55SH Series II for $159 and the Snowball for $99. Yeah, $60 is fairly substantial, but when you consider the difference in price between, say, a Snowball and the same manufacturer's Cactus ($2,499)... --G. -><- Benjamin D. I can put you in touch with my Dad and he can probably get you a 55SH on the employee discount rate. :) It helps that he works at the company's base of operations in Chicago. I'll see if I can get a quote from him. ;)Sorry for the belated reply. Doing my bit of Food Service Attendant duty on my ship - something every sailor E-5 and below has to put up with. At least I lucked out and got sent straight up to the Wardroom to serve my three months of FSA duty. :p Black Aeronaut Technologies Creative aerospace solutions for the discerning spacer "To the commissary we should go," Yoda declared firmly.
