... there comes a time in the lifespan of every project when an idea will occur to you, and you'll think, No, I can't do that, and move on to looking at other things.

And then, eventually, you'll come back around to the idea again and think, Well... why can't I do that?

And if you play with it long enough, you'll realize anything else you might do in that spot is just your original idea with the numbers filed off anyway, and why fight it?

With that in mind, look for the return of an old friend from HL in Iron Age #3.

This is total speculation on my part (Whatever happened to the rampant speculation?) but my theory is the person making an appearance is Eris, opening the possibility of this universe and UF being in the same existence...ie, this world being a partitioned-off bubble reality like 616 was or simply a parallel universe. We know they exist in UF, after all.

If so, my agent hasn't told me yet. Then again, my only appearance in HL is right at the beginning, and maybe a couple of references.

Speaking of which, I had a strange thought. Maybe HL could be explained as the fever-dreams of Ben Stark typing stuff up on painkillers. He mashed all the elements of the recent days together with long-forgotten memories and came up with something that, while absolutely surreal, he would never be able to publish, as it's too close to the truth.

Or maybe I'm thinking about this too hard.

EDIT: For some reason, I'm seeing a lot of suspicious subtext between Ben and Zoner in this. Of course, considering the source material, this is pretty much the best place for subtext. :D

I think(and, with all due respect, hope) that what this is meant to mean isn't so much 'we're actually gay' as 'we haven't shown you the reason we're acting the way we are'.

Now, since it's 4.15 inna morning here, and I'm less than sober, that sentence might make less sense to anyone else, but *I* understand what I mean, and hope others do too.

What way? Would somebody like to give me a clue or two here? Because quite frankly I don't know what the fuck any of you are talking about.

When talking with friends, people tend to "shorthand" what they say to each other, knowing that their common experience will make the meaning clear even if it isn't apparent to an "outside" observer. Referring to something as "Daver-sharp" is only meaningful to readers of UF; the phrase "rock climbing" will give a different mental image to a MSTie than to most non-MSTies.

I think that's the "subtext" they're talking about here. TIA-Gryphon and TIA-Zoner obviously have a good deal of shared history, so they don't have to explain themselves to each other all the time. And since they're not breaking the fourth wall, they don't feel a need to explain things to the readers, either. :) We'll find out, eventually, as the story goes on--if the author feels we need to know.

Which is as it should be, of course. The readers aren't supposed to be omniscient--heck, as has been pointed out here before, sometimes even the writers don't know what their characters have planned. :)

Yeah, my picks were KITT, Jim Tyrrell, or Edison, in order of likelyhood.

By mention only. HLGryph gets in data on how to build the microfusion drive from him via Edison.

Also, no offense, but can I have those braincells back?

It's not so much "HL is horrible, and I wish to scrub it's Very Existence From My Brain" as "...why do I remember this obscure fact (and some surrounding dialog ("Holy Shit, the Time Lord's REAL?" "Everything is real in the multiverse, Zoner") from a fanfic that I haven't read in a couple of years?"

In otherwords: Your writing doesn't suck, I just wish that I could use that memory space for something useful. Like where my pants are.

ETA: Also, my vote? GOD. Because who doesn't love GOD.

For written word translation to mental image the scene with HL GOD's appearance ranks up there as a perfect **wham** score. :-)

Hmmm. A new StarkWire this morning? I wonder if that might just be related.

Was Matt Mason a nod to the old Major Matt Mason astronaut show/toys? :)

Yep. Major Mason is also quoted (and referred to by rank by one of the other quotees) in the previous StarkWire article. In the Iron Age universe, he commanded the mission that established Lunar Station Tsiolkovsky, the first (and so far only) permanent moonbase, in the 2010s, then went on to be the first astronaut to become director of NASA.

I remember Carter, Kowalski, and Ferreti discussing those in the first Stargate SG-1, but this is the first I've heard of them since then.
