This reminds me of... I can't remember if it was the Supergirl story arc in Batman/Superman or the New 52 Supergirl reboot--some relatively modern comic in which Superman meets Kara for the first time, anyway. He knows she's from Krypton and talks to her in Kryptonese, but she can barely understand him, because he learned it from a book (or some kind of textual medium, anyway) and his pronunciation is horrific.

In-story, that might be how Remi and Flan assume G learned Gallic. :)
