>to inline the image. The question mark tells httpd, "What I'm calling here is a CGI script, and what's after the ? is the argument you are to pass to it." On many servers (including this one), if you do that on the URL of something that isn't a CGI script, httpd will just discard the argument and give you whatever the file is. It fools DCForum because (I believe) DCF uses a simplistic parser that looks for filename extensions to determine what is and isn't an image, and it doesn't recognise "jpg?x" as a valid image file format. The fake argument (x) could be anything; since the file being called isn't a CGI script, apache will just ignore it.
