If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with the keyphrase-based annotations from the start. That I didn't even think of that until after I got the stylesheet working is weird in hindsight, since the line number thing didn't even work outside the text editor I was using. I just completely failed to think of any other way to do it. I guess I was too fixated on doing it like the annotated print books I was inspired by in the first place.
