Yeah, I've been having that reaction, myself. Its supposed to have been prompted by a lawsuit by the heirs of Siegel and Shuster, where the judge tried to force the parties to work together (something DC mostly wanted) by splitting up the Superman property between them (I've forgotten who got what, but its not very connected to the Superboy lawsuit of years earlier), necessitating a change in continuity due to the heirs not making a deal with DC. Meanwhile, DC is suing the heirs' lawyer for poisoning the relationship between the heirs and DC (and maybe they have a point).

The thing is, most of the cool stuff they threw out has nothing whatsoever to do with Superman, or very little. Also, I do remember, when I read the article that said how the property was split, thinking that if it was accurate, they'd need to change very little, like renaming a few characters and planets. Since the new Kal-el is still from Krypton, IIRC, the accuracy of the article, or my memory of it, doesn't seem to be very good. When I have more time, I'll try to see what I can find on the lawsuit.
